Details: Drawing its inspiration from the typical European metal rocker of the 1800's the Cantilever chair was created using Stainless steel bent tubing. Of course he was not the original designer, but you can clearly see Marcel Breuer's design influence in the Tubular frame of the lounger. Generously filled Foam and Dacron tubular pillows create the body. Pure, soft Top Grain Aniline Leather was selected as the upholstery for the entire body of this Kardiel Cantilever Chaise reproduction. Heavy duty straps span between the Stainless Steel tubs and act as the body support. A premium reproduction of one of the most comfortable mid century modern chaise lounge chairs ever created. * Style: Cantilever Arm Lounge Chair * Cushion: Multi density foam wrapped in a silk pouch provides the perfect amount of top visual plump to the cushion * Cushion Type: Individual tufted pillow cushions * Body Straps: Heavy duty straps are riveted to both sides of the frame * Leather Type: 100% upholstered in Top Grain Aniline Dyed Leather * Frame: True to original tubular polished #304 stainless steel frame * Stitching: Braided thread & lock-stitching ensures seams are long lasting * Feature: : The entire chair is Hand Sewn/Stitched * Dimensions: Height 35.4" x Depth 75.6" x Width 23.8" 100% Genuine Top Grain Premium Soft Aniline Leather This item is upholstered in premium Top Grain Aniline European leather. Top Grain is the actual surface of the cowhide. While no one knows the exact number, a small percentage of furniture sold today is upholstered in Premium Top Grain Aniline leather. Some claim as low as 5%. Aniline dying describes one of the two processes in which color is applied to the leather with the dye penetrating the leather and extending beyond the surface, into the leather itself. For modern furniture requiring a clean aesthetic, Top Grain Aniline Leather is both “liquid vat” (deep penetrating) and surface dyed to achieve the main color selection and to conceal uneven tones and blemishes in the hide. Top grain aniline is the softest leather and naturally breaths well. Because Top Grain refers to the actual surface of the animal hide it presents a natural leather appearance you would expect. While it is true that raw Top Grain Aniline absorbs spills easier, Furniture grade Top Grain leather features a stain resistant treatment making it exceptional for everyday lower maintenance use. Although rare, nothing wears, looks or feels better than premium Aniline Top Grain leather. Over time it patinas and becomes more comfortable versus wearing out. About the Original Designer Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe was born on March 27, 1886. He passed away August 17, 1969. He is regarded to this day as one of the pioneers of modern architecture. His concept of “less is more” in architecture can be seen in his furniture designs. His building featured industrial steel and glass. Low profile cushions and clean thin steel frames are signatures of his furniture pieces. He migrated from Germany to the U.S in 1937 with growing threat from the Nazi party. Mies went to work for the Institute of Illinois in Chicago as the head of the Architecture Department. His 31year work history in the U.S was spent mostly working from his studio in Chicago. The majority of his focus his time was building design. His furniture designs, which he created in collaboration with Lilly Reich have become classics.
