Irrigation System Controllers

Count the stations you need today

An expandable controller’s headline capacity may include modules purchased separately. Check the base station count, the modules supplied and the remaining expansion options against the actual circuits you intend to operate. Keep a record of the existing controller and valve model numbers when comparing replacements.

The Rain Bird ESP-ME3 listing is a useful example of this distinction. Its family supports expansion and optional WiFi hardware, but the linked bundle needs its included modules confirmed before purchase. Do not assume that a title mentioning WiFi establishes what is inside the box.

Check the enclosure and connections

Match the controller’s electrical requirements, valve compatibility and intended installation environment. Indoor and outdoor versions or different regional power supplies can share a family name. If you are also adding new watering lines, compare drip components by their flow, pressure and fitting requirements; station count alone does not describe the hydraulic system.
